So, AMI wrote back, and I promised I’d share their response; here it is:
The story is, AMI sent me a bill for 10 cents; and if I didn’t pay it they’d cancel my policy (house, contents and car insurance). I felt a bit swarmy so I stuck 20 cents in the envelope and sent it off to insurance land (next to accountant land and beside dentist land). So they sent me pineapple lumps, my 20 cents, and an apology.To their credit, they’ve always been really helpful and pretty cool to deal with. Just a classic example of when a computer does something dumb.
