I haven’t blogged in a while. I think I’ve been a little self concious about blogging, and a lot busy with stuff. Stuff, from hereon, refers to:
- Snowboarding (4.5m base Turoa side)…with my friend Wade, the Astrophysicist.
- Working. Two websites, neither of them online – so I can’t share them with you yet.
- Sleeping.
- Strengthfinder coaching.
It’s been madness really.

First things first, did anyone hear the lightning last week?
Picture this: the sweet, velvety goodness of a mature state of unconciousness, about 1.40am in the morning – to be broken, nay, shattered by the resounding echo of lightning. Honestly, I woke up thinking the world had ended, white island had erupted, and I had about 3 minutes to live. What did I do? Regret a little, txt my dad (because he and I often talk in the midst of tsunami / volcano disasters – more on that later…maybe) and txt Jono, my flatmate (Did u jst hear tht!?). Txting in the midst of a Near Death experience… I’m not sure if I’m proud of that.
Eventually I drifted back into an uneasy sleep, not sure if I had imagined the whole thing. I didn’t. It was real.
A week or so ago I did Strengthfinder coaching as part of my job at mosaic, a church in the mount. Strengthfinder is a personality test (not a gimmick – I promise) that focuses on your talent (rather than traditional psychology that tends to be pathological, about your issues). You take the test, and it gives you your top five talents (of 34 possible) that describe your personality in terms of strength, rather than terms of issue. It’s nice starting from the place that you are a unique human being, who was created to make a unique and invaluable contribution to the world. No one was created like you, ever, and no one will be ever again – why try to be like everyone else? Your unique – develop the things that make you unique.
Here’s my top five:
- Strategic (I see patterns and try to find the best way in confusion)
- Futuristic (I look back on the present and am constantly thinking about the future)
- Belief (I have a core set of beliefs that drive me)
- Activator (I need to start things, I can’t just talk about them)
- Learner (I love learning for learning’s sake)
To be honest, when I heard about it I was *quite* cynical, but it’s very well done – they’ve done 2million people, and is an incredible tool in unleashing unique human potential. In any case, I’m a coach now, which means I can help people develop their talent into strength.
It’s been a big gap on the blog, so much has happenned. I’d love to fill you in on what I learnt about Dark Matter (good talks in the car on the way to the snow), homeopathic sleeping pills, the AB vs Samoa game, Mike Guggliamucci, snow camp, propilis and my brother and how he doesn’t keep in touch. But, I have 8 minutes of battery left. It can wait.
2 Minutes. Leave a comment.
